Why occupancy limits are hard to keep

Rooms, halls and areas have occupancy limits for fire safety and for safe work, and entrances get crowded at shift changes, events and peak hours. Counting by hand does not work, and dedicated counting sensors are another system to buy and maintain while cameras already cover the doors.

What ProDataAI Lens does

  • People counted in and out at doors and entrances.
  • Occupancy limits per room or area, with an alert when the limit is reached.
  • Crowding at entrances, for example at a shift change or at the main door of a campus building.
  • Queues building up at entrances, counters and checkouts, with an alert before they get too long.
  • Heatmaps of space use: which areas are used how much and when, from anonymous counts, for example to plan cleaning, staffing or room layouts.
  • Too many people in a restricted area, such as a lab or a plant room.

Counting without identifying

To count people, the system only needs to see that someone passed, not who it was. ProDataAI Lens does not recognise faces or identify people and does not track individuals. Reports show numbers over time and nothing about individuals. That keeps the processing light and easier to justify to your data protection officer and works council.

Reports that help planning

Daily reports show occupancy over the day and peak hours per room or entrance. Facility managers use them to plan cleaning, opening hours, staffing at entrances and room use.

Frequently asked questions

Is people counting personal data?

The counts themselves are not, but the camera image is. Keeping the processing to counts, without identification or tracking, makes it much easier to justify. Your data protection officer makes the assessment.

Can we see occupancy live?

You can watch any camera live with detections marked, get alerts when a limit is reached and receive daily reports.

Does it work in large open halls?

It works where cameras see the entrances or the area clearly. In the pilot we check which cameras give reliable counts.

Can we use it for venues and events?

Yes, where the entrances and areas are covered by IP cameras with a network connection: halls, venues, campus buildings and event areas. You set a limit per area and get an alert when it is reached, with live counts during the event.

Can existing security cameras send an occupancy alert?

Yes. ProDataAI Lens reads the cameras you already have, counts people in and out and alerts the person you choose when an area reaches its limit. Where cameras cover the doors, no extra counting sensors are needed.
