Where an extra early warning helps

Classic smoke detectors sit on the ceiling and need the smoke to reach them. Cameras see areas that detectors cover poorly or not at all:

  • Outdoor areas: waste and recycling yards, pallet stores, battery and container storage.
  • High halls and large open spaces, where smoke takes time to reach the ceiling.
  • Loading bays and areas with open doors and draughts.
  • Areas watched by cameras anyway, where nobody is present at night.

How detection and alerts work

ProDataAI Lens looks for fire and smoke in the camera image and confirms a fire across several frames, so car headlights at night or a reflection are not reported as fire. Fire is a critical alert: it goes out at once, by email, text message or messenger, to the people responsible for that area, with a snapshot and a short clip. The recipient sees in seconds where it is and how big it is.

Before a fire starts: smoking and hot spots

Two further alerts help before there is smoke to see.

  • Smoking in no-smoking zones: an alert when someone smokes in an area you define, such as a fuel store, a hazardous goods area or a hay and straw store. It reports the event, not the person, to whoever is responsible for that area.
  • Hot spots on thermal cameras: an alert when an area you define, such as a waste bunker or a battery store, gets unusually hot.

Both are additional early warnings like fire and smoke detection. Where employees work in these areas, agree the purpose with your works council, as for safety gear detection.

What it cannot do

  • It only sees what the camera sees: no detection behind racks, in closed rooms without a camera or in thick fog.
  • It does not trigger sprinklers, alarms or evacuation and is not connected to your fire alarm panel.
  • Its performance depends on your cameras, their angle and the lighting. We test it on your cameras in the pilot.
